Recently, I had the pleasure to execute a commissioned work, that was quite different in terms of what I usually do. It was a request that I painted with recognizable objects, but using my abstract handwriting.
Here's what came out of it: Golden City. My Schnelli.
It was a wonderful experience. I've done commissioned artworks before and I'm always open to hear out person's ideas and needs. It's always a 50:50 with abstract works, that you can never know if what comes out is what's expected (and better to expect nothing and trust the artist!), but it is very possible to take an empty canvas with definite measurements, use specifically chosen tones and perhaps even mention, what style of works in my portfolio appeal to you...
I've been painting abstracts for a bit more than 10 years now. I started doing it right next to studying Painting at University of Tartu. We had all drawing and plastic anatomy etc courses that taught us to draw. I'm definitely not the best drawer in the world, but this order gave me a chance to remind me again and put in use what I had studied. It is always best to combine techniques and take the best of every world - as long as it all stays together elegantly - and not to handicap oneself with potential naysayers or fears that it'll be not stylish...
Just try it all out and see what happens.
And if you have an idea in mind that I could do a special painting for you, let me know and we'll talk about conditions and timeframe.
Lots of love, til then!
